She’ll say that this is the start of a new chapter involving all three of you. Chloe will have to choose between the following:Īfter this scenario, Joyce will start talking about how everyone needs to treat each other better. A major choice will come up that is impacted by previous choices in the first episode. This is a minor choice where Chloe can apologize to David or refuse his peace offering.Īfter that, David will ask Chloe to prove that she’s not abusing drugs and alcohol to build his and Joyce’s trust. When you reach the car and talk to them, David will start by saying, “Your mother and I have been talking.” Chloe and David will go back and forth for a bit until David asks for an apology in an effort to start over. Chloe can take him up on the offer or turn him down.Īfter speaking to Eliot, keep walking towards Joyce and David who will be waiting for her. He’ll then ask if Rachel Amber was involved.Ī minor choice will come up as Eliot offers to take you to see The Tempest to help take your mind off things. Chloe will tell him about her punishment and he’ll offer to give her a hug. You can find him near his car in the middle of the parking lot. She’ll then ask Skip if she can use the bathroom so she can tag it before she leaves.Īs Chloe enters the parking lot to meet her mother, you’ll have the opportunity to speak to Eliot. You’ll be able to go through her locker, one item at a time. Chloe will then be escorted by Skip the security guard to clean out her locker. Chloe will have to choose between the following:Īfter the meeting in the Principal's office, Rachel will tell Chloe that she wants to meet at the junkyard later. After a little back and forth, a major choice will come up. Everyone in the room, especially Chloe, is shocked at his decision since the school play is happening that very night. Principal Wells responds by relieving Rachel from her admin job in the school office along with taking her out of the school play, The Tempest. Before he can finish his sentence, Rachel interrupts and puts on a show in an effort to convince him and their parents that it was all her idea. For me, the story is mostly strong enough to carry the fact that you’re more a spectator than a player in the unfolding drama.Since Chloe has a history of problems at Blackwell, Principal Wells begins to say that Chloe has forced his hand, alluding to a potential suspension from the school. On that note, actual interaction and ‘doing stuff’ really takes a back seat in Brave New World, so if you’re looking for a puzzle-heavy, argument-filled episode you’ll be sorely disappointed. Similarly, the scene the pair share at the junkyard (and the stuff Chloe does before Rachel arrives) is wonderfully watchable. The Tempest (haha - clever choice of play) and the moments after it showcase the tragic beauty of this series at its very best. Whether or not you choose to play them romantically, there’s a real sweetness between the pair that generates some of the most memorable scenes in Life is Strange. The core mystery of ‘Who was Rachel Amber’ is the true driving force behind this game, and the increasingly intimate relationship shared by the girls magnifies our desire to uncover it. Sure, we know it’s doomed, but the chemistry between the pair is often so convincing that it’s hard to accept that events transpire as they eventually do. What mesmerises, constantly, is the relationship between Chloe and Rachel. David is fairly convincing as the failing patriarch - his inconsistent behaviour actually in keeping with his conflicting attempts to control Chloe and stay friendly with Joyce - but the dynamic between the three of them just feels tired by now, especially as we already know how it ends. Chloe is often far too obnoxious to her mother and step-dad to gain much sympathy (even with the relatively gentle conversation options), while Joyce is reduced to a simpering non-event as she weakly asks her daughter to come home. Chloe’s broken relationship with her mother and step-father isn’t particularly smartly explored in Brave New World, with all three players in this drama reduced to even more stereotypical archetypes than before. As such, there are some minor spoilers ahead, but I won’t go into too much detail. Because Before The Storm episode 2 does everything mechanically identical to the first episode (and all of Life is Strange) it’s tough to talk about where this episode excels and stutters without referencing the story.
